Opportunities to Make a Difference

Make Your Knowledge, Experience and Commitment Part of Something Meaningful.

Change does not happen through resources alone. It also happens when people choose to share what they know, contribute what they can and work together to create opportunities for others.

A teacher who inspires a child to love reading. A technology professional who introduces a woman to digital tools that strengthen her business. A mentor who helps a young girl recognise her potential. A community volunteer who contributes to a well-organised development initiative.

Each represents the power of purposeful service.

At ChangePoint Advancement Initiative for Development (C-PAID), we believe that people are among the most valuable resources for sustainable development. Our volunteering initiative seeks to bring together individuals who are willing to contribute their time, skills, creativity and professional experience towards programmes that empower people, expand opportunities and strengthen communities.

Whether you are an experienced professional, student, entrepreneur, educator, creative, corporate employee or someone passionate about community development, there may be opportunities for you to contribute to our mission.

Volunteering with C-PAID is about more than giving your time. It is about using your capabilities responsibly to help create meaningful opportunities for others.

Your Skills Can Make a Meaningful Difference.

Across Nigeria, communities face challenges that require different forms of knowledge, experience and support.

Some development initiatives require educators who understand how children learn. Others benefit from entrepreneurs who can share practical business knowledge, technology professionals who can teach digital skills or communications specialists who can help important information reach the right audience.

Community-based programmes may also require people who can assist with planning, organisation, participant engagement, logistics and responsible programme delivery.

When volunteers contribute relevant skills within well-structured programmes, they can help strengthen the quality, reach and sustainability of development interventions.

C-PAID recognises that volunteering is most effective when individuals are matched with appropriate responsibilities and supported to contribute meaningfully. We seek to develop volunteering opportunities that respond to real organisational and community needs, rather than activities created merely to keep volunteers occupied.

Our approach encourages responsible service, collaboration, learning and respect for the dignity of the individuals and communities involved.

Different Skills. Different Opportunities. One Shared Purpose.

C-PAID’s development mandate creates opportunities for different forms of volunteer participation.

Volunteer roles will depend on programme priorities, approved activities, available supervision and the qualifications or experience required.

Volunteers will generally be required to be at least 18 years old for independent assignments. Any youth volunteering activities would require separate age-appropriate arrangements, parental or guardian permission where applicable, and suitable supervision.

Specific roles may require professional qualifications, relevant experience, references, background checks or training.

We value reliability, respect, professional integrity, cultural sensitivity, accountability and the ability to work constructively with others.

Potential volunteers may include:

A Simple Process. A Meaningful Commitment.

We believe effective volunteering begins with clear expectations and appropriate preparation. Our proposed volunteer engagement process follows five stages.

Submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee selection or immediate placement.

01

Express Your Interest

02

Skills and Opportunity Review

We review expressions of interest against organisational needs and the requirements of approved volunteer opportunities.

03

Where an appropriate opportunity exists, selected applicants may be invited for a conversation, reference checks, verification of qualifications or other role-specific assessments. Assignments involving children or individuals experiencing vulnerability will require additional safeguarding checks and procedures.

Orientation and Role Assignment

Suitable applicants will receive relevant orientation, information about the programme and a clear description of responsibilities, supervision and expected commitments.

05

Participate, Learn and Contribute

Approved volunteers will support agreed activities, work with designated coordinators and participate in appropriate feedback and learning processes.

A Professional and Respectful Volunteering Experience.

We believe volunteers are most effective when their contributions are purposeful, expectations are clear and they are treated with professionalism.

C-PAID aims to develop a volunteer engagement framework that includes defined assignments, orientation, suitable supervision and clear communication. Where appropriate, volunteers may have opportunities to develop professional experience, collaborate with people from different backgrounds, contribute specialist knowledge and gain exposure to community development initiatives.

We also recognise that volunteering involves responsibilities. Volunteers will be expected to respect confidentiality, observe codes of conduct, protect beneficiary dignity, comply with safeguarding procedures and carry out agreed responsibilities reliably.

Certificates or letters acknowledging service may be issued where appropriate, based on verified participation and organisational policy.

Volunteering is ordinarily unpaid. Any reimbursement of approved expenses, allowances or other arrangements will be specified in advance for individual assignments and should not be assumed.

The People We Serve Must Always Come First.

C-PAID’s programmes include activities involving children, adolescent girls, women and individuals experiencing significant disadvantage.

These activities require more than goodwill. They require responsible recruitment, defined boundaries, appropriate supervision and a clear commitment to preventing harm.

We aim to establish volunteering arrangements guided by the following principles:

Safeguarding

Volunteer involvement will be subject to appropriate child protection and safeguarding requirements, including relevant vetting, training, supervision and incident reporting procedures.

Respect and Non-Discrimination

Volunteers must treat participants, colleagues and communities with dignity and respect, without harassment, exploitation or discriminatory conduct.

Confidentiality and Privacy

Volunteers must protect personal information and may not disclose beneficiary records, photographs or sensitive circumstances without appropriate authorisation.

Professional Competence

Volunteers must work within their knowledge, qualifications and authorised responsibilities. Specialist services cannot be provided without appropriate professional competence.

Responsible Communication

Public statements, fundraising appeals, photographs and social media content relating to C-PAID activities require appropriate approval.

Accountability

Volunteers are expected to comply with approved organisational policies, report safeguarding concerns through designated channels and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.

These principles are essential to protecting beneficiaries, volunteers, communities and institutional partners.

Bring Your Team’s Skills into Meaningful Community Action.

Corporate volunteering can create opportunities for organisations to connect employee expertise with practical development needs.

C-PAID welcomes enquiries from companies, professional firms, institutions and organised groups interested in exploring responsible volunteering partnerships. Potential activities may include digital skills workshops, career mentoring, educational enrichment, entrepreneurship training, resource development and other approved initiatives.

Where appropriate, engagements may be developed through a written partnership arrangement specifying objectives, volunteer responsibilities, safeguarding requirements, costs, supervision and reporting expectations.
